Dear Festividder,

Hello! I am so excited that you are going to be making me a gift or a treat for festivids! I
so look forward to whatever wonderful vid I receive from you :)

Before I get into some specific fandom stuff, here's some general info about my preferences. Music-wise, I'm a big fan of thoughtful lyrical matches with the visual source, and I'm open to pretty much any genre.
Even if it isn't something I'd listen too much myself, if a song is a good match for a source that's the most important thing. I would say there isn't anything content-wise in any of the sources I've requested that need to be avoided, and I don't have any visual triggers to avoid. My one big dislike that's worth mentioning is diegetic sound, but if it's done well I am definitely convincible. My main thing is I really prefer not to have dialogue overlapping with lyrics, but some well-deployed dialogue during instrumental moments or a sound here and there isn't an issue. Anyway, on to my fandom requests!

Adaptations of The Body Snatchers, by Jack Finney

There's something so interesting to me about stories that get adapted over and over. I love seeing different takes on a story, how the telling of it differs based on the artistic vision of the creators, the interpretation of the original text, and, as is especially apparent with this story, the historical context of the different versions. The story of
The Body Snatchers (a book I have not actually read, but really ought to given my love of these movies) is one of paranoia that you cannot trust even those closest to you, and of fearing that you too may loose your identity and autonomy to an invisible force outside your control. While these elements of the story stay consistent throughout its adaptations, how these fears resonate and what they allude to culturally differs tremendously between the 50s, 70s, 90s, and 00s. There are 5 adaptations total (if you count the terrible looking mockbuster Invasion of the Pod People, which came out the same year as The Invasion), and I've seen the first three (the 90s one is actually pretty good!), and do plan to watch The Invasion at some point, even if it looks boring as hell. I'd be really pumped to get a vid that includes at least the first two versions, though honestly including all of them (or at least the four that are, like... legitimate movies. Truly no pressure to include the Pod People one) would be very very cool! I'd be interested in a vid that contrasts the adaptations, or one that focuses on the common themes, or really whatever you want to do with these sources, I just think they're neat! Also, though I'm primarily interested in direct adaptations, I could definitely be open to broadening the scope to include other pieces of media that are clearly heavily inspired by, or are paying homage to this story (such as The Faculty) if that is a part of your vision.

Beverly Hills Cop

Beverly Hills Cop is just such an all time comfort movie for me, and I love Axel Foley. I think he is a delight
. I adore his Bugs-Bunny-ass tendency to improv his way out of sticky situations. Cards on the table, I've only seen the first movie and don't feel terribly compelled to watch the rest, so I'm mostly just invested in getting a vid focusing on the original movie. That said, if you really want to include stuff from the others, be my guest, I'd just prefer if the enjoyment of the vid didn't hinge too much on knowing the stories of the other movies. Mostly I'm here for a character vid about Axel, so if including antics from the other movies will make that happen, go for it!

Crashing

SAM. AND. FRED. God these two and their stupid fucked up dynamic is like crack to me. Sam is such an unwell man, he is a problem, and I love him and want to study him under a microscope. I don't think I've ever blorbo'd this hard over such a piece of human trash. He is perfect to me. He is a mess. Make me a vid about him/them. PLEASE.

Filmed stagings of Stephen Sondheim shows

We are so lucky to live in a world where so many of Stephen Sondheim's works have been professionally filmed for us to enjoy forever. To the best of my knowledge, these include (with the ones I've seen bolded):
  • Company (2006)
  • Company (2011)
  • Follies (1985)
  • Follies (2017)
  • Gypsy (2015)
  • Into the Woods (1991)
  • A Little Night Music (1990)
  • Merrily We Roll Along (2013)
  • Merrily We Roll Along (2023 - not out yet, but maaaaybe it will be in time for festivids?)
  • Pacific Overtures (1976)
  • Putting it Together (1999)
  • Sunday in the Park with George (1986)
  • Sweeney Todd (1986)
  • Sweeney Todd (2001)
  • Sweeney Todd (2021)
And there might be more I'm missing! Of the above musicals, I've seen versions all but Pacific Overtures and Follies (though I know the music to Follies well). Two favorites that sadly don't have proshots are Assassins and West Side Story, though if you wanted to draw from Tonys performances or professionally shot trailers for clips of those that could be cool. Anyway, I don't have anything in particular I'm looking for here, mostly just hoping to get a celebration of the gorgeous works of my favorite broadway composer and lyric
ist in whatever form that takes. If you have a particular theme you want to explore, go for it! If it's more of a "hey look at this cool stuff!" vid, that's great too!

First Cow

This is just a wonderful period piece about two guys stealing a cow's milk to make pastries to sell right back to that cow's owner, and I think it's great. If you haven't seen it, go watch it. In fact, I should go rewatch it, I've only seen it once. But yeah, this movie is lovely and someone should make me a vid about it, please and thank you.

Holiday

This film is one of my all-time favorite romances, and, along with When Harry Met Sally (another perfect romance), is a MUST watch at New Years for me and my family. The characters in it really make such an impression. I adore Johnny. I adore Linda. I adooore Ned. I would welcome a vid about Johnny and Linda's romance, or a character study about Linda or, if you're feeling ambitious, Ned.

Marmalade

Watched this movie on an airplane cause I could not possibly resist a heist movie staring Joe Keery (Steve Harrington, my beloved) and Aldis Hodge (Alec Hardison, my beloooved!!!). It was so much fun, has a delightful twist, and is generally a movie I think would make a super fun vid.

M*A*S*H

I love everyone in this mobile army surgical hospital. Except Frank. But everyone else? Unspeakably dear to me, and I would accept vids about any of them. I would absolutely love a Hawkeye character study or a BJ/Hawkeye vid, though I have seen vids about them before, so if you were feeling adventurous and like you wanted to spread the vidding love a bit, I'd also be so very pumped to get a character study of a side character like Radar or Margaret..... or Father Mulcahey.... or Colonel Potter......... or Charles... or Sidney.... OH NO I was only gonna list Radar and Margaret but then I remembered, and I cannot emphasize this enough, I love everyone in this mobile army surgical hospital except Frank!!!!!

Now and Then

Truly there are NOT enough movies of this genre (ragtag group of tween best friends going on adventures, usually during the Summer, usually on bikes) about girls! Now and Then is a comfort movie I've seen countless times and it just makes me happy. It makes me happy, it makes me emotional, it makes me sing along loudly to every song on its perfect soundtrack! This is just a wonderful movie about friendship and I'd love a vid about the whole group or any individual character or pair within the group.

The Road to El Dorado

This movie is gay and poly as hell and I think it deserves more gay and/or poly as hell vids. I'm here for Miguel/Tulio or Miguel/Tulio/Chel. Other than that
? Just make it gay and fun!

Hello vidder who was assigned me for festivids! Thank you in advance for the rad vid you're gonna make me! I don't have much in the way of specific requests or ideas for the fandoms I've requested, but I guess I'll give you some little notes on what I like about them to give you some inspiration.

General likes: I like most types of vids I guess, I love a good character study, an ensemble vid, a shippy vid, I'm pretty much down for whatever. I love thoughtful song choices and good lyrical matches, in general I'm a sucker for songs with good lyrics. I like comedy vids a lot (Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Lonely Island, Bo Burnham, Weird Al, are all great musical sources for these) but I also equally love a good tearjerker. Music-wise I like oldies a lot, I love musicals and showtunes (especially Sondheim), but it needs to be a really good match for me to like them in a vid, and I like lots of singer-songwriter and indie type stuff, but please don't feel wedded to these genres - I'd rather you make a vid with music you can get excited about vidding and that feels right for the source than for you to get bogged down in trying to accommodate my musical taste.

General dislikes: not a fan of heavy filters over an entire vid or of using audio/dialogue from the visual source (unless it's used sparingly and not over parts of the music with lyrics), other than that, go wild.

Fandom Requests

Arrival - This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the timey wimey-ness, I love the language stuff, I love that it's about grief and love and how those things are inextricably linked, I love Amy Adams and think she should have gotten an Oscar for this role... I just love all of it.

Bound - So like I was prepared for this movie to be sexy (which it super duper is, please do lean into that) but I was not prepared for what an AMAZING neo-noir thriller it was? Like as a gay I came for Jennifer Tilly but I stayed for the plot. I'd love a vid that gets both the sexy lesbianism but also the suspense and the crime and whatnot

Deathtrap - I just love how ridiculous and convoluted this movie is. I want a vid with as much weird-ass energy and as many twists and turns as this movie has.

Promising Young Woman - I mean I think it goes without saying but I'd want a vid for this movie to pretty much just be like... a scathing critique of the patriarchy.

For a Good Time Call... - this is a top tier comfort movie for me, I have seen it at least a dozen times, it makes me so so happy. I'm definitely looking for a fun vid about the central relationship of the film, doesn't matter to me if that's in a shippy way or not

Jumanji - I wish for a Bethany vid!!!!!!!!!! I'd love a Bethany character study but I'd also be pumped for a Bethany/Martha vid.

Cabin in the Woods - I am very here for meta horror stuff! I love Marty a lot, I'm also always here for examinations of the final girls trope, I'd also enjoy a vid about the weird organization/cult running the show. I'm down for whatever.

The Faculty - Just give me a big fun ensemble vid full of good campy horror fun and 90s nostalgia. I love this silly movie so much.

Face/Off - Okay, not to be dramatic, but Face/Off is the best movie of all time. I'd love a vid that leans into the extra-ness of this movie. Like this movie deserves a proper, balls to the wall, wild ride of a vid. Let John Travolta and Nick Cage's spectacular acting choices shine. Go crazy.

Sirens - Okay for reals more people need to watch this show. I would kill for six seasons and a movie. I'd pretty much take any vid for this show, but some of my favorite things include Hank and Johnny's friendship (this can also include Brian, they're a great trio), everything about Billy, everything about Teresa, Johnny/Teresa, Brian/Voodoo, just Voodoo, workplace family, whatever I pretty much love everyone in this bar. A Sirens vid existing would make me so happy. (But uuuuuh please don't make an "Odds Are" vid, not because it's overdone but because I'm.... already working on one)
